THE ROLE OF THE NORTH BAY PARRY SOUND DISTRICT HEALTH UNIT

• Investigate animal bites/scratches to humans and recommend treatment when needed.
   
• Confine biting and other suspect animals for observation.
   
• Enforce the mandatory vaccination of dogs and cats against rabies.
   
• Distribute vaccine and immune globulin to physicians for post-exposure treatment.
   
• Provide pre-exposure vaccine (by appointment) on a cost-recovery basis.
