School children are often the first to be affected by the arrival of influenza and they are responsible for much of the early transmission within the community. During the influenza season, the North Bay Parry Sound District Health Unit participates in the Ontario Influenza and Respiratory Infection Surveillance Program. School absenteeism rates above 10% are monitored and serve as an indicator of transmission of influenza-like-illnes and as a representation of transmission of influenza both in the schools and community.
The chart below illustrates areas within our district where a school has reported experiencing an absenteeism rate of greater than or equal to 10% with influenza-like illness. Once the absenteeism rate is less than 10% data is removed from the chart.

Les enfants d’âge scolaire sont souvent les premiers à être touchés par l’arrivée de la grippe et ils sont, en grande partie, à l’origine de sa transmission précoce dans la communauté. Au cours de la saison de la grippe, le Bureau de santé du district de North Bay-Parry Sound participe au programme ontarien de surveillance de la grippe et des infections respiratoires. Les taux d’absentéisme scolaire supérieurs à 10 p. 100 font l’objet d’un suivi et servent d’indicateurs de la transmission de maladies ressemblant à la grippe. Ces taux représentent la transmission de la grippe à la fois dans les écoles et dans la communauté.
Le diagramme ci-dessous illustre les régions dans notre district où une école a signalé un taux d’absentéisme des élèves supérieur ou égal à 10 p. 100 attribuable à une maladie ressemblant à la grippe. Une fois le taux d’absentéisme inférieur à 10 p. 100, les données sont retirées du diagramme.
