H1N1 Influenza

H1N1 influenza is a new influenza virus that has affected people all over the world.

The symptoms for H1N1 are similar to seasonal influenza, although so far,
the symptoms have been mild. Symptoms can include:

  • fever
  • cough
  • sore throat
  • body aches
  • headache
  • chills and fatigue
  • children under 5 years may have vomiting and/or diarrhea.

There may be complications in some people with
chronic medical conditions or pregnant women in
their second or third trimester or up to four weeks
after the baby is born.

If you have severe symptoms, like those below,
seek medical attention immediately
or call Telehealth at 1-866-797-0000:

  • difficulty breathing
  • shortness of breath
  • chest pain
  • severe or persistent vomiting
  • a high fever (in adults) that lasts more than two days
  • severe tiredness in a child
  • confusion or difficulty waking an ill person

New H1N1 Vaccination Guidelines for Children

Your child does NOT need a second dose o f H1N1 if they are:

  • 3 to 9 years old and healthy.

Your child WILL need a second dose if they are:

  • 6 months of age up to 3 years old
  • 3 to 9 years old and have underlying medical conditions (like kidney disease, diabetes, asthma, cancer, cystic fibrosis, are immune compromised, are taking long-term aspirin therapy, etc.)
